Just wrote a little blog story about these 2 italian girls that worked with me this year. We had lots of fun together, yet hated each other, so it was a good business relationship. And I finally found out why italians are so dark skinned compared to other europeans :1orglaugh

Some of them are "olive" skinned, some aren't. Like Luke said, Sicily had some issues with the Moors many lifetimes ago.

All you have to do is watch the Food Network for example. Florence, Batalli, Ray and De Laurentis are all Italians, and only one of them is really olive skinned (although she - Rachel Ray - is not full Italian either though).

That's correct. Parts of Latin Europe such as Spain and Italy were occupied by African Moors for about 500 years until the Catholic Church rose to the top and instituted the Inquisition to expel most of the Moors, Jews, Gypsies, pagans out of Europe

Race is a social creation. As far as modern science, in particularly genetics and molecular biology is concerned, it is nonexistent when it comes to the species homo sapien. Anthropology, however, is another thing entirely.

hes right. but then again so what? most italians, both in the US (including myself) and in Italy (from conversations ive had with my ****** there) consider themselves Caucasian. its not like its a huge deal, just a preference of how to define ones self
