59 oz. Tropicana. . . douches !

Tropicana Raising Prices on OJ

Tropicana is raising prices on some containers of orange juice and shrinking the package size of others, to pass along higher costs stemming from the freeze that hurt Florida's orange crop this winter.

Chicago-based Tropicana, a unit of PepsiCo Inc., said it would reduce the jug size of Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice to 59 oz. from 64 oz., but hold the price steady. Meanwhile, it plans to raise the price of its gallon-size Pure Premium containers by 5%-8%.

Florida produces more than 75% of the U.S. orange crop and accounts for about 40% of the world's supply of orange juice. But after more than a week of unusually low temperatures, citrus growers fear significant fruit damage to the $9 billion industry. Video courtesy of Reuters.

"We have now fully reviewed the extraordinary losses that the Florida citrus industry has suffered—the most devastating winter freeze and the smallest crop in 20 years, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

OK, so the crop was hindered this year, bfd ! that's farming for you, so, instead of competitive pricing at the high end, these corporate douches have to modify the carton size to some oddball 59 0unce container !

Douches I say

I read 59 oz and I was hoping beer would be not only in 40 oz option but a 59 oz.

Tease thread! :(

The one and only.
I buy Simply Orange Florida orange juice with lots of pulp. Fuck Tropicana!

Douching with Tropicana would be a bad idea.

I repeat, do not rinse your vagina with fruit juice!

You're buying a brand nothing more. Switch to a lesser brand and you'll get exactly the same product in a bigger container and at a reduced price (probably).

Of course if that brand then becomes popular you'll probably have the same problem some day. But that'll be a few years down the line and hopefully we'll all be dead by then so you won't have to worry about it.

I repeat, do not rinse your vagina with fruit juice!

Well there goes my fantasy. :(

Corporate finagling of product packaging size/price increase has been going on for the past 4 years. What I've begun to notice is the packaging quality is starting to decline. I haven't seen so many things like milk cartons, water bottles, juice bottles actually dent after you open them. Companies seem to be using thinner, cheaper plastic in everything. I've had to return milk twice in the past month because the fucking cap comes off on the drive home

The sinister thing is Tropicana won't return to the 64oz size ever, even if next year is a bumper orange crop...this price increase/packaging decrease is here to stay...

I agree with just about everything you typed.
Yea, let's say that you have 3 major brands in price competition and then one of them (A) decides to reduce product content, all the while creating the ''impression'' that their carton is the same size as his competitors (don't you just love those false bottoms ?), sooner or later, his competitors B & C are going to have to reduce their product content as well !
It's a viscious circle, isn't it ? !!

Hey, I never said that capitalism was perfect . .
it sure beats the alternative though.

I know you disagree with my finale ...OK, OK I know.:D

I first noticed reductions about 3 - 4 years ago as well, when the ice cream was reduced to 1.75 quarts :hammer:
