insurance for independent contractors

Does anyone know of any affordable insurance for independent contractors? This is the down side of doing porn/stripping, you don't get insurance! I need some though so I am just wondering if anyone knows of a good/affordable insurance plan for the self employed.

Have you tried MediCare? I think that's the one for people of low income between the ages of 19 and 63. If not, try going to county health services. They'll treat you for whatever immediate ailment you have, and then either provide low cost insurance, or refer you to a low cost carrier.

unless you're really accident prone the money not spent on insurance could pay for a lot of medical bills...i'd suggest setting up a spare account to put money into for emergency purposes instead that way the money isn't being wasted for no reason, insurance is only worth it if it gets used :2 cents:

You can check with the State Labor Dept to see what they offer and recommend. When I started, I went to NY's and got some good initial information. I think went into price shopping mode and called and met with a few of the agents.

Start calling around and shop for a plan that fits you best. I have been thru a few companies and finally settled on Blue Cross Blue Shield. They are the best insurance company that I have had as far pricing and covering what they are supposed to so I would deff recommend them.

Sorry but this is terrible advice. One hospitalization can get you tens of thousands of dollars of debt. Slip and break a bone that requires surgery 10k, randomly get appendicitis 20k, get sick and require an expensive name brand med etc. Or get a form of cancer and never be able to get coverage.

just get a accident policy, you don't need full health insurance

if you need to do anything because of a illness just go vegan/herbal. if you need some medicine just call up herbdoc.com he's the naturalist most Hollywood people use

I haven't had health insurance since 2004 and have never needed it

My daughter and I both have medical conditions that cost a shit load out of pocket on a regular basis so those trying to give me "financial advice" and telling me I don't need it, you're incorrect. I wouldn't be asking about insurance if doctor bills weren't costing me so much out of pocket and putting me in debt...for those actually answering my question thank you, I didn't know that blue cross blue shield does independent insurance I thought that was just for people employed under a company other than themselves, and anything with the state is just not go8ng to happen my income is too high (though I don't see much of it due to mine and my daughters lack of insurance) does anyone have any websites I can check out?

I've had a number of employee and self employed policies over the years. Rates and coverage vary a lot from state-to-state but I've always had luck finding an independent insurance salesman that can shot a dozen or more companies for you and help you get the best coverage for your situation.

Having any sort of pre-existing condition has been a problem for years. And companies that talk about open enrollment often have fine print that delays certain conditions from being fully covered for months. If you are eligible or can join certain organizations that offer group plans, that would probably be worth the cost of membership. Try this for starters. Maybe it will help, or will lead you to a place that can help.

One of the worst experiences of my entire life was getting really ill a couple of years ago, and then having to fight an insurance company, a doctor and a hospital over the billing. Even when you have insurance, you still have to watch out for these legalized thieves in the health care and insurance industries.

Good luck to you.

I was in the hospital in December for Pulmonary Embolism for 2 weeks. My total for my stay was over $45,000. After my health care plan paid it's portion, I had to pay $250.00. Plus if you have dependents, there are the regular doctor visits, shots, etc. to consider. So in choosing a healthcare plan, you might want to look at the benefits and out of pocket payments as well as the cost.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
Try Cigna, I am moving to Texas from Massachusetts and need to find a new health insurance company myself, and Cigna is one of them that I am looking at.

Don't listen to any of these fools. Go to ehealthinsurance.com and enter your info (age, sex, dependents, etc.) and you will receive a plethora of quotes. If you are relatively healthy and don't see the doctor often, don't take meds, etc., then you may want to look into a Health Savings Account (HSA) where your money is invested and grows. HSA's can be set up for Medical, Dental, Vision, Chiropractic, etc. Here in Ohio, Medical Mutual is the big company. Blue Cross/Blue Shield is also good. Metlife and Cigna are not as good coverage wise, but may be good in other states. Hard to give someone advice on insurance companies in other states because they all differ. Good luck!

Shouldn't the L&I in whatever state be able to offer suggestions?

I hope you and your daughter get better soon or can cope with whatever issues you both have. Here is BCBS's website www.bcbs.com, you can either browse through their plans or call and have an agent see what suits you best. I forgot to mention before to stay away from Aetna, they are horrible with paying for stuff they should.

i didn't mean to come across that way so i'm sorry, i've just seen many people spend too much money on insurance, stress over it unnecessarily and not use it for years and then if and when they do end up needing it they aren't really ahead and sometimes worse off, especially if their insurance plan isn't as good as they believe it to be or their company decides they don't need to cover that incident for whatever reason...it may just be a localized phenomenon, in which case my advice is as irrelevant as people seem to think it is, but it's been my experience that if you're paying with your own money hospitals and clinics tend to charge substantially less than those with insurance and are by far the easiest and least stressful entities to owe money to, so long as you give them at least an agreed upon minimum every month...seeing as you have existing conditions and are looking for help getting treatment then i can see better why you are looking, to me this is a legitimate reason to seek insurance, paying $X a year for a service you will only use in a 'what-if' situation is ridiculous in my mind, if you end up in the ER you will get the treatment you need to live whether you have the money or not, everyone worries about that later...sorry i can't offer any input on which direction to go insurance-wise but definitely get as much clarification as possible on what exactly is covered and shop around, good luck!
