IBM predicts holographic technology. Apple patents multiple user, "glass-less" 3D.

After reading these stories recently, and it being accepted that porn has become a major driver for "new media" technologies, what do you think will happen with porn that might help make 3D holographic presentations the "next big thing"??? So if viewers can one day reach out and "touch" their favorite porn stars during a movie or interactive chats... What do you think???

Apple’s 3D Patent May Be the Push 3D Needs for Mainstream Status, Says In-Stat

Stephanie Ethier, Senior Analyst: "For example, Sharp is launching a glasses-free 3D smartphone in the US in 2011. Nintendo is set to launch its 3DS handheld game console in Japan, Europe and the US in the first half 2011. However, a notable difference between these 3D-enabled mobile devices and Apple’s 3D projection system is that these mobile devices are optimized for a single viewer experience. Apple’s 3D projection system would be optimized for a multiple viewer environment—one that is much more suited to driving 3D adoption in the home."

Holograms on cell phones coming in five years, IBM predicts

Computerworld - In five years, cell phones will be able to produce holograms of friends and colleagues talking and moving in real time, IBM researchers say.
"We see 3D [video] technology moving into the cell phone, which will have the ability to transmit information off the cell phone to create a 3D hologram, projecting the hologram on any surface in life size," said Paul Bloom, IBM's CTO for telecommunications research, in a recent interview.

cool another thing to make driving even more dangerous

Even if somehow this does come out that soon I wouldn't hold my breath for porn to have it for a long time. One, because it's gimmicky and something I feel wouldn't last. Two, an even bigger reason is that the cost of producing it when it first comes out would probably be out of range for almost all porn productions to make it possible. The industry is struggling financially as it is. The industry would have to wait for the cost of production to drop after the technology is first released.

Question here-With Hologram technology, will I be able to "force" strangle someone's figure represented by a Hologram if they fail to carry out their mission.

To get true 3D holographic projections, that more than one person will be able to see, will be a big leap. But given how fast things have progressed in the past 10-20 years, I won't be that surprised to see this within the next 10 years or so. It's taken HD TV about 10 years to catch on and become the standard. Probably another 5 years before 3D HD is optimized and really catches on. So yeah, given Moore's law, I think within 10 years, 3D Holographic HD could be widely available.

And hey, maybe that's what it'll take to get me to go for a smartphone. If the iPhone XV has that, they can sign me up. As for Flash, I bet the WinPhone Vista model will have that. Maybe they'll even offer a 3 1/2" floppy drive on this Zune player that makes phone calls. :D
