As many people know (or may not know), vBulletin has its own seach function for the message board. While you don't HAVE to use it when you're about to post your own thread, it is highly recommended that you do a seach for the topic you're about to post to avoid posting it for the 100th time and looking like a complete newbie. :) Plus this keeps your thread from getting merged into another thread, or worse yet, deleted. So, read on to learn how to use the search function! 1.) Locate the SEARCH up in the message board toolbar: 2.) Click on the search link to get a drop down box:

From here you can type in your search topic (say, Jenna Jameson). Click either "show threads" if you want to see all threads pertaining to your search or click "show posts" for all posts your search topic is in.
You can also do a "tag search" or you can click "advanced search" to get a more detailed search.
3.) If you do a "tag search," it will look like this:

The tag cloud shows all of the most popular tags in a thread, but you can put in your own word to see what comes up. You can tag a particular thread as well then do a tag search so it will always come up in your search.
4.) Advanced search will look like this:

1. This is the most important area of the advanced search. You put your search term in (for example Jenna Jameson) and then click "titles only." All of the threads with your search term will come up!
2. If you want to get more specific, you can use these drop down boxes.
3. If you want to see threads with your search term, don't touch this area. But if you want to see all posts with your search term, click "posts."
4. If you want to search for a user, enter their user name. You can put a partial search in and everyone with that word or start of a name will show up in a drop down menu.
5. You can also search for a tag in the advanced search.
6. You can contain your search to a particular section of the board vs. having your search go through the whole board.
