How to get Americans to love soccer.

LukeEl

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
Throw in a a rabid Grizzly Bear and I will watch and not only that I will ask for an expansion team over in Boston.

Somewhere else on this board in another thread like this I mentioned about a dozen things like on the field rule changes soccer needed to make to make it a worthwhile sport. I don't feel like looking up that post now, but to have it be worth watching they would need to at least implement most of those rule changes along with running their leagues with a salary cap and floor and extensive revenue sharing between teams.

I don't think it's possible.
Those signature low scores are just never gonna cut it.
It's like all Soccer games are full of ALMOSTS. Full of "Ooooooo! Nice Shot! That came CLOSE to going in."
But, actual Goals are just way too few and far in between, bordering on nonexistent.

Another factor that IMO also has a negative effect is:
Okay, I don't know how it is in other countries, but I've noticed that in Mexico, they play Soccer seemingly ALL YEAR!
There are no seasons per se from what I can see.
Thus, there is no break from Soccer for the people to be able to build up anticipation for wanting desperately to see it again.
I think the year round playing of Soccer neutralizes the interest. It also makes the games less meaningful.

It's the complete opposite of say, the NFL where there are only 16 games in the season and if teams have a slow start and maybe they lose their first 2 or 3 games, depending on the competition in their division, their season could be seriously in jeopardy of be Fubared right then and there.

While the NBA and MLB have way more than 16 games, they do still have seasons and give the Fans a break.

In fairnes today in soccer, my favourite team celtic, scored 5 goals. If that was 5 touchdowns it would be 30 points, which is not an unusual American football score, where they also get points from kicks etc to score extra points. In England Liverpool scored 6 goals, again, 36 points is a usual NFl score. So the scoring in soccer isn't that much less than American football.

A season tends to run from around October to June. It's normally around 38 games but changes depending on the country, there are also many international games inbetween. That means there are a couple of months to wait for the next season.

Same as above

Why do people who like soccer care if Americans like it?

We don't, we never will...and you know what? That's ok.

I am an American and I don't care if other countries care about football or baseball. Why do soccer lovers want the rest of us to love it?

The same reason soccer haters have to bash it every chance they get.

Anyway, the title of the thread was a joke. I wasn't trying to instigate this old debate again. The scary thing about this tazer ball shit is the significant increase in violence. Ike Stain started a thread about death row people entering a challenge for their life, Smash Tv style, and i think this is a step in that direction.

I wonder how many times you have to get zapped in a day before your heart stops. That would certainly add to the game - the always-present possibility of a dead body being carted off the field.

take away that bullshit offside rule. It worked for the NHL

Just put a McDonald's that's allowed to sell imported beer (from Germany of course) at cheaper prices in every stadium.
