Best thing to do is use the manufacturer during the warranty period, even is it's for a non-warranty part and costs more, then use 3rd party or DIY after warranty is over.
If you use the product often and know that it will probably break, get an extended/enhanced warranty from the store you bought it.
As for cars, if you're rich, lease a new one every 1~4 years, if not, buy a second hand car, the repairs, over the life of the car, will cost less than buying a new car.
And if you can, learn to do ***** repairs yourself. I've saved thousands of dollars doing ***** repairs on my car like, changing brakes, head gasket, battery, rods, and cleaning some parts, plus it's interesting and fun to tinker.
I learned by watching youtube videos or google searches.
