Most people think that calculating the age of dogs and cats in "human years" is quite simple: multiply their age by seven. For example, a 4-year-old dog or cat would actually be 28 years old in human years.

But when you really begin weighing out the arithmetic, this method doesn't add up. Say a 1-year-old dog is the equivalent of a 7-year-old human -- get out of here! How many 7-year-old humans are sexually active and capable of reproducing? Dogs and cats are much more likely to have babies at 1 year old or even at 10 years old, than any person who is 7 or 70.

I had a cat that died when she was almost 19. It was pretty rough when cancer took over her body and we had to put her to sleep.

I have a harder time keeping it together when a pet dies, compared to a family member. Doesn't make any sense. I'm going to need a 6 month leave of absence when my cat dies. My Nani died and I was back to work the next day.

I will be inconsolable for several days when I have to put him down. Best dog ever.

So, to clarify my earlier statement, my cat has been a constant presence, beginning in happy times, through excruciating times, to present times. The consistency of lovable companionship, the devotion, and the constant cuddle friend...

Can't replace that. There may be a successor, but never a replacement.

Back to cats for a sec... I find it hilarious how everybody's cat is the greatest cat of all time... even if the cat's master has children, their cat is still the greatest! Poor kids. :rofl:
