My opinion goes to character, For example, if a man works, and starts at say, 18 years old. He works his 30 or 40 years, and over that time in addition to his financial obligations, he is able to make some wise investments, and/or squirrel a little away in a 401k, or an ira, and can say fuck it, and walk away a little early because he has a million, or so built up. He has no greed, even if he never spends it, because he's happy just finally sleeping in, and laying around.
Now on the other hand, you have a, lets say a politician, who has come to the game with a head start on the wealth department, but abuses their station with some insider trading, and leaves office a multi millionaire, that's greed. Or, a guy like Jeff Bezos, who already has a shit ton of money, but gets rid of employees because they want a union, so they have some security, that's greed.
As far as squandering goes, the first guy can buy anything within his means, and it's not squandering, he earned it, how ever, the second guy, the one that spends $400 on a bottle of scotch regularly, and eats at 5-star restaurants all the time, I consider that squandering.
