How did the pornstar rankings end up so laughable?

I commented on this a few years ago around the time when the website got redesigned -- the babe ranking on the old website were pretty reasonable reflections of what pornstars were popular, established, or rising fast... but around the time they redesigned the website, they changed the algorithm, and now it produces a completely absurd list of small-time stars. I asked about it back when they made the change and got some answer along the lines of "it's our proprietary algorithm that takes into account many factors that measure the interest level of our users". Since then I've been looking at clumsier sources like tube sites, which have their own quirks, and aren't anywhere as plausible as the old Freeones rankings were. I always assumed Freeones would eventually come to their senses and revise their algorithm, but after looking at it just now... no, it hasn't improved at all.
