How Close Is the USA to Socialism?

I'm getting so tired of hearing all the b.s. about America becoming "socialist" under Obama. This chart helps to explain why (I'm tired of it, and why it's b.s.):

After all, Obama did manage to somehow force all of these industries into dire straits before he was elected so that they would come and ask him for solvency and bailouts once he became POTUS.

I knew the guy could part the seas but to force these companies to the brink of failure as a lone US Senator is quite impressive.:1orglaugh

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
That depends on how in tact the 2nd Amendment remains...but close enough, that we should be concerned. Real concerned.

Confusion: Is this about Socialism or is it indeed about China (now that's scary.):anonymous

It's about whether the U.S. economy is "socialist" or not.

Please see my links - esp. the 1st one.

^Got it FK;) I was just posing a poser;) Many folk, especially here in USA, are equating China (and it's industrial supremacy) with 'Socialism'. Not suggesting...

Ok, gotcha. Yeah, I've read a lot lately about all the new millionaires in China eating pricey cuts of beef and buying Ferraris and Rolls-Royces like they're going out of style. Crazy kind of "socialism"!

Well, "socialism" wouldn't have anything to do with the ability of an individual to buy high priced items. That would be affected (limited) by classic communism.

Hyperventilating neo-cons !

IMHO the answer to the question is "nowhere near close enough"

I wasn't getting into that really. Just pointing out that if that's the socialist nightmare, well, the nightmare is working out for more and more Chinese people all the time (in a strictly consumerist sense - wealth and income disparities and political and religious freedom, etc. - all that aside!)...

China is effectively a capitalist country.

Point taken. But I know you're not advocating anything to do with China being a goal or admirable are you?

Nope, not advocating that anyone follow China's model on much of anything, if even ONE thing.

I'm just saying that the time for calling China "socialist" is over, and actually has been for some time now...

That's all.

:2 cents:

In addition to the minute part of the US exonomy that the government owns, they will just sell off their stake in GM and others once they are well again, just like all the other times the government bailed out a company...

As for all of this crazy commo healthcare, it's just the sensible sort of system that most of the developed world uses.
