A homeowner shot and ****** an intruder before dawn yesterday in Victorville, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's officials.
A burglar alarm at the house drew deputies at 3 a.m. Sunday to the 14100 block of Calle Contesa where they found the intruder inside the house and suffering from gunshot wounds, sheriff's homicide investigators said in a written statement.
"The male suspect had broken into the residence while the occupants *****," according to the statement. "They were alerted to the intruder by their dogs.
"The suspect attacked the homeowner with a caustic material. The homeowner, fearing for his safety and the safety of his ******, shot the suspect."
At the time of the statement, the intruder had been identified only as a white man in his 20s. Since then, coroner's officials have released no information on the dead man or the incident. He died at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
