Melitta Schiller
She studied maths , physics and engineering in 1922 (pretty remarkable for a woman). Went to work for DVL and engineering firm working for the Luftwaffe in 1928 and used her time there to get her pilots licence and by 1937 had become an aircraft captain rated for gliders, acrobatics and all classes of powered craft, only the second woman to manage this, the first being Hanna Reisch (also pretty remarkable.)
Took time out to marry Alexander Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, a historian and ******* of the army officer Klaus in 1937.
Her ****** was a convert to Protestantism, he was born a jew, a fact that got her slung out of the Luftwaffe in 1936.

At the beginning of World War II, Melitta wanted to work for the Red Cross but was ordered to become a test pilot for the Luftwaffe in Rechlin, Mecklenburg. She did about 2,500 nosedives on warplanes, up to 15 times a day, from a height of 4,000 metres. Her work was considered as highly important for war, and this saved her and her ****** from deportation to concentration camps.
From 1942, Melitta Schenk Gräfin von Stauffenberg continued her test-flights at the Luftwaffe's technical academy in Berlin-Gatow. She was attacked by Allied aircraft and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on January 22, 1943. She made her dissertation for her masters qualification in 1944 and received an A grade. She then became technical chief of the Versuchsstelle für Flugsondergeräte, another test institute, in the same year.
She was with Erprobungsstelle Rechlin and later with the Technical Academy of the Luftwaffe. Her work mainly comprised the development and testing of aiming devices for dive-bombers. She herself made almost 3.000 nose-dives with Ju 87 and Ju 88, sometimes 15 a day.
Her work was considered so important by the nazis that she - in spite of being from a jewish ****** - formally got the status of an aryan.
