I know, I'm from California so I have no darn idea what a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is. OK, so now that's been covered...

There is this great place in Venice on Lincoln Bl where I get these delicious Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches. I like it with steak, melted cheese, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. They use a nice, soft roll too. The place has 4.5 out of 5 stars on Yelp so it must be pretty decent. Anyway the first time I went there I wasn't experienced ordering a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. The guy asked me if I wanted pizza sauce. I said sure. He put it directly on the sandwich. The sandwich tasted good but it was soggy. After that I would order with no pizza sauce. The sandwich wasn't soggy but I missed the taste of the pizza sauce. Now I order it with no pizza sauce on the sandwich but ask for a cup on the side. That's the ticket right there!

Order your pizza sauce on the side for the best of both worlds.

If it's a thin sauce, I would pass. A chunky marinara would be good.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I wouldn't put sauce on a Philly cheese steak. I would pile on the shrooms, onions, pepper rings, and spicy brown mustard. I have used Hienz chili sauce, and that isn't bad, but I'm REAL picky about the pasta sauce I eat.

Lol! Dino: I hear ya. The first / ONLY place I've done that is at .. Dino's Pizza Shop, in Burnt Hills, NY!

I literally ate a philly last night. I've also had them in Philadelphia a couple times from different places. Never seen em with pizza sauce before. I'm sure its not purist (depends on who you talk so, because, you know, food nazis), but I'd try it.

Best philly I had was at the airpot in Philly. It was meat and cheese. One of the best things I've ever eaten. Other than that, they've been OK.

I just came back home to LA from NYC early this morning and had a Philly Cheesesteak just like you with only steak and cheese at a spot at JFK Airport. Sure was good.

Adam: At Bar Symon? I've had a couple of them there, on layovers.

No no, I forget off the top of my head. I don't think it was that. Its super close to one of the terminals at the very end. What was it...? Hmmmmm.

You know, airport places have some real gems sometimes.

First of all, the very second sauce hits a Philly Cheese steak ITS NO LONGER A PHILLY CHEESE STEAK!!! I lived in Philly for 2yrs, trust me on this. If I was gonna add ANY sauce I'd add steak sauce not pizza sauce. Pizza sauce on a Philly don't even sound good. I'd just get a pizza sub if I was gonna add pizza sauce.
