help playing a video file

I have a video clip i downloaded on my mac and am having issues playing it. It saved as a .mov file, but quicktime says the movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. I also have a VLC player installed and tired opening it with that. VLC is a no go too. It said it cannot read the file because its a .mlp file.

I checked my version of VLC and it was outdated so I updated to VLC 1.1.2 which apparently can read .mlp files. When I try to open it, VLC opens but will not play the file.

Anybody know whats going on and what I have to do? I'm going to try to post on a couple of message boards dedicated to video files, but I figured the good people of Freeones might know too ;)

The file could be corrupted, try re-downloading it.

the only way i know might work is to download freecorder tool bar.

when you have the toolbar installed put the video file in the freecorder folder located in my documents
in the toolbar click convert, there are many different video formats you can convert to, minus avi,
wmv usually works for me.
but first do what l3ggy said.

also try to play it in an flv player,.

mlp files are DVD audio files
First try with e.m total video player and converter
VLC 1.1.2 supports the format, as it still did't play I doubt the file quality like it may be corrupted or a part file or you saved it as some different file like you said mov and it may not be mov as it doesn't qualify for dvd video file

with DVD-Audio ripper it can be converted to PCM
or use mkvmergegui and export it as .mkv

if not Winamp with an MLP plugin, simply the new one

VLC has been able to play .MLP files since 1.0 was released. I'd be willing to bet you're source is bunk.
