Green Fireballs !

Have you ever been in a fixed position, while by happenstance, looking directly at a dark clear sky, only to observe a rather large shimmering, multi-colored, orb arcing across the sky . . . coming closer . . . closer ! . . . finally turning bright green as it seemingly explodes into the darkness just prior to what would have been certain contact with the horizon ?
I have :D and here's the story -

A glowing tomato-green fireball shot through the black Merced sky early Saturday, stunning those fortunate enough to see its brief life.

Merced resident Erika Knorn, 42, had awoken just before 2 a.m. to take her dog, Shadow, to the bathroom before returning to bed.

She gazed toward the sky and noticed the burst of color above her house near East Olive and Parsons avenues.

Erika Knorn describes witnessing a spectacular "fireball" in the sky above Merced early Saturday morning.

"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! What is that?" she recalled saying that night as if someone would answer. "Oh my gosh!"

Was it a flare? she wondered. Was it a missile?

Needless to say, I heard no explosion, sonic boom or percussion of any sort on that particular morning. I am roughly 100 miles to the Southwest from the location of the article and the detail that I observed, from beginning to end, seemed to take place in a matter of 2 - 3 seconds. :dunno: Weird !

I understand that the green shimmer may have indicated that the asteriod (or whatever the case may be) was rich in copper prior to it's reentry (burning up) into the gravitational pull of ma earth. :dunno:

Good stuff to witness though ! :D
