VA Warns Advises thousands to be tested for Hepatitis and HIV


10 patients tested positive for hepatitis B or C at one facility, all due to unsanitary equipment used for colonoscopies, some going as far back as 2003 when the procedure was performed.

Just a couple months ago, the VA at the Murfreesboro facility was involved in another issue related to sterilization to where they shipped the equipment to another facility to clean in Nashville, and then shipped it back. BD

More than 10,000 Veterans Affairs (VA) patients who have received colonoscopies in the past six years may have been exposed to infectious diseases, including HIV and hepatitis B and C, according to the Associated Press.

Unsanitary equipment at three VA facilities (in Augusta, Ga., Miami, Fl. and Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has prompted officials to notify patients about the potential risk.
