First look at Robocop as he comes back to life as remake of iconic 80s movie gets underway in Toronto
In his full-body fighting suit Robocop became one of the most iconic heroes of the Eighties.
And now fans can get their first look at the action hero come back to life as the remake begins filming in Toronto.
Actor Joel Kinnaman, better known for his work on The Killing, was spotted wearing the updated RoboCop suit on set by film website, Comingsoon.net.
On set pictures from the Toronto shoot include scenes of Kinnaman wearing the Robocop suit as he storms onto a crime scene, as well as Abbie Cornish wearing a futuristic all black outfit, including body hugging tights and futuristic leather jacket.
Michael Keaton is set to play the role of Raymond Sellars, CEO of the corporation that builds RoboCop in the MGM/Columbia Pictures’ RoboCop remake of the 1987 movie.
Keaton joins previously announced Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson and Abbie Cornish in the Jose Padilha-directed film.
The first Robocop made more than $54m, spawned two sequels, a television miniseries and even gathered Oscar nominations.
In the remake Kinnaman will play Alex Murphy, the hero police office who is critically injured in the line of duty. His life is saved using the latest robot technologies, creating a futuristic Robocop who struggles to adjust.
Speaking to MTV Kinnaman said: 'The RoboCop reboot is going to be a lot more human,' adding, 'the original is one of my favorite movies. I love it.
'Of course, [director Paul Verhoeven] has that very special tone, and the reboot is not going to have that tone. It’s a re-imagination of it.
'There’s a lot of stuff from the original.
