Feds to issue new medical marijuana policy

WASHINGTON – Federal drug agents won't pursue pot-smoking patients or their sanctioned suppliers in states that allow medical marijuana, under new legal guidelines to be issued Monday by the Obama administration.

Two Justice Department officials described the new policy to The Associated Press, saying prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state law.

The guidelines to be issued by the department do, however, make it clear that agents will go after people whose marijuana distribution goes beyond what is permitted under state law or use medical marijuana as a cover for other crimes, the officials said.

The new policy is a significant departure from the Bush administration, which insisted it would continue to enforce federal anti-pot laws regardless of state codes."

Another reason we can be glad Bush and friends are on the outs.

Keep in mind that this isn't a change in the law. It's more the administration reprioritizing things or maybe even selectively ignoring some medical marijuana use. If in the future there is some change of heart or if some other administration wants to go after people again there will be nothing stopping them. If some individual pisses off the wrong person enough that might even be enough to still get singled out.

I don't smoke pot and I don't allow it in my house (or cigarettes either for that matter). But this is the absolute dumbest waste of tax payer dollars, to run around trying to lock up people with cancer and eye problems because they smoke pot.

I know the Evangelical wingnuts believe that we should ALL live under whatever rules they establish, but decriminalizing pot possession across the board is one thing that I'd like to see happen sooner than later. Now, drug smugglers and big time dealers, that's a horse of a different color. But I believe that what an adult puts in his/her body, or does with his/her body, is strictly his/her business! As long as you're not violating someone else's right to life, liberty or quiet enjoyment of their property, do what you will!

In Kalifornia Did you know that "One Prescription" is arbitrarily defined as a 10' X 10' growing area worth of pot ?

Shit, how much extra does the grower get to sell free of tax ?
I don't mind people using pot for / as meds but the system is a scam ! You know that the growers are self enriching themselves ! Can I DO THAT TOO ?

:hammer:
