Edonkey/emule downloads??

heya guys ive heard a lot of people talking about how great edonkey and emule are but i downloaded emule and theres LOADS of files avaliable. but when i click download they just sit in the transfers window and dont budge. only if im lucky do they download and thats normaly only liek for 10 mins then they stop and go tits up again
any help please
(same happened with edonkey)
