At first I thought it was a unit of measure. But then for a moment I thought that they meant a eunuch of measure. How do you actually measure that(?!) And what would you do if you really did? Is it anything like a nautical mile, as in the old advertisement for a brand of cigarettes “I’d walk a nautical mile for a Camel.” Wouldn’t you drown before you even got that far? And how would that be fair to the camel? What would Bob Barker say? What would Ron Cey to Brigitte Bardot? Would she have the presence to react fast enough to conceed the base hit but go for the play at the plate? Upper or lower? And what kind of present would that be, anyways?

In Australia a quid is slang for a pound, which was our currency before decimilisation in 1966. It was the same as the English pound and I am sure they used the same slang.


It lead to a saying "I would not do that for quids". In this thread I would not want to find out how many licks it talkes to get to the centre of a tootsie pop roll, for quids.

I should have mentioned this in my previous post, but a quid can also mean "A rolled up cylinder of fresh leaves to be chewed and held in the mouth for medicinal or other effects"...in modern times this most likely would refer to a "quid" of chewing tobacco...of which I am a former chewer...i thought i was so cool in college chewing tobacco on the baseball team (for those of you who don't know chewing tobacco and baseball in the US used to go hand in hand)..then eventually someone showed me pictures of people losing half of their face from oral cancer...I was like :eek: and quit....i always wanted to use that "smiley"
