"the vault, which cost about $9-million and has been built to withstand everything from global warming to nuclear war. "Given its location and construction, the seed vault would likely survive almost anything."

lolol, in America it would've cost 9 billion and take three times as long to construct. Even though.. there would not have been any true difference in workmanship or manpower. At least.. that's my experience. :)

So they save seeds so that if that plant becomes extinct then they can what? Stare at them? If the planet couldn't support that plant in the first place, what would be the point in planting it again?

:1orglaugh:rofl:

Thanks for a good laugh. Sadly though, it is not far from the truth.

"now sven, don't get all worked up. our orbital death ray accidentally hit your seed island. we'll pay for everything.
have i shown you my. . .our death ray? it's pretty cool."

That's O.K. When all the nuclear dust settles, they'll be the only ones with food!

The whole concept is disturbing, really....

This is a great Idea you never know when something may go wrong with them putting the seeds in a safe place so we would be protect in having something to fall back on.

Why?

I don't believe most even read the article. Just another post count event I suppose. If it had been read, you would have known Canada is also involved in a big way.

Agriculture Canada is providing seeds for posterity at the vault. It sent 6,000 samples from 90 different species, including varieties of barley, other grains, clover and oilseeds such as canola. The seeds will remain the property of Canada while in Norway, and will be allowed to be retrieved only by Agriculture Canada.
*la sigh*
