Does anyone here still like the Call of Duty games?

Obviously people do elsewhere or else there wouldn't be the annual midnight release. But I gave up on this series years ago with that one iteration (I forget which) of Modern Warfare where there were a bunch of russian submarines and ships in New York harbor about to launch cruise missiles at NYC. That makes for a great set piece but it's just retarded. Why would a submarine of all things expose themselves in the shallow water of an enemy harbor when they could launch their cruise missiles from hundreds of miles away? The Call of Duty series is to videogames what Michael Bay is to movies - shit.

But I digress, I think. Or am I just pointing out something that was patently obvious years ago?

Call of Duty is not too big to fail. I hope.

It seems that everyone makes fun of the games, and I'm not entirely sure why that is. Will someone enlighten me? Never played any of them, but they seem to be the big joke for one reason or another.

A lot of the criticism comes from and is of the multiplayer community and yeah, fanboyism plays a part. I quit playing multiplayer because of my diminishing skillz and getting pwned (is that how you spell it?) by some punk 12 year old. The yearly churn out from activision and just the lack of innovation overall. And I guess the microtransactions and DLC thing is getting ridiculous.

My complaint is strictly on the single player campaign end. I know that's been a secondary focus of the series but still, it's just getting cheesy with the example in the OP.

Though, I did really like Call of Duty Ghosts. If they release a followup to that I'm definitely getting it.

Oh and I take that back, I don't want the series to "fail." If they can keep raking in the money, then more power to them. It doesn't affect me any.

I haven't played a CoD game since the one where they had the Ruskies invade America, (not sure which number that one was) let alone any of the 'Black Ops' ones. Which is strange, because usually I love a good FPS game.

Well maybe because I found little replay value from the series (Single Player Campaign) and I'm not a fan of the MP, especially all the trolling and drama that goes along with it. (Give me ME3MP any day). Or maybe I just haven't gotten around to play them, because there is so many games to play and so little time to play and they're not at the top of my "play next" list.

It's funny, I love the Halo series/story line which I think is better than CoD, but always wished it had the CoD game controls/game mechanics (console I'm talking about), which I really like and think is one of the best FPS set-ups out there.

Sorry a little off topic at the end there.

MW3 is where the COD series started downhill quickly. After MW3 the games went to complete crap. So, to answer your question. No, I don't like the series anymore. They took something really cool and fun to play, and turned into a piece of garbage.

I first play MW2, Black ops, and MW3 on PS3. Haven't played it in almost a year. I use to enjoy them but I end it ends up being more frustrating than fun lol.

I prefer the Battlefield series. Last COD I played was Black Ops and to be honest the only reason I played was because of the zombie mode and the first one, Nazi Zombies, was the best.

I miss the WWII days. Yes, at the time the market was saturated (CoD/MoH/BF1942). but with all those series moving into modern war, it's the same situation again, with WWII this time being neglected. I can't recall the last quality current-gen WWII game.

You have to respect CoD for occasionally trying new stories & themes, from MW/BLOPS and even Ghosts.

I actually do like the CoD series. If anything, it did suffer a significant decline in recent years. Ghosts tried to be Battlefield 4 and failed miserably, and Advanced Warfare was way too ambitious for a CoD title, not to mention a bunch of factors in the multiplayer that essentially broke the whole experience (case in point, supply drops/variants).

However, Black Ops 3 is pretty much the right way to advance the series, as it actually manages to feel both refreshing and familiar, while not going overboard with the change that many have been clamoring for.

Prior to the release of Black Ops 3, I didn't care for the CoD games anymore. Ghosts and AW took away all hope I had for the franchise but Black Ops 3 has somewhat renewed my interest in the franchise. However, I probably will not care for the next CoD and I'll be more excited for the next Battlefield.

originally I didn't like black ops 3, seemed too much like halo. However after going through the zombies and nightmare modes I gained a new appreciation for it. Fun game.
