Do you have cash ?

Do you generally know the amount of money, (+/-) $20, that you have in your possession at any given time ? I used to, but I sure as hell don't now. How about you ? What has changed ?

I'm not particularly secure in wealth or anything, It just seems that, over the years, as I get older, I just seem to . . . well. . . pull paper out of my wallet until the time it becomes exhausted and then, I pull out my check card.
That's it ! The check card is the reason that I don't particularly keep track of my, on person finances. It used to be a special trip to the bank to get cash and that is not longer the case. True or False ?

When you find $ 20, that you weren't even "missing", in one of your shirt pockets, do you just sort of shrug and stuff it in your wallet ?

Why is money so unexciting ? Oh, because it's no longer worth anything ? :yesyes:

the only time I ever have more than 20 bucks on me is for a short period of time when I'm about to pay a bill. so it usually comes out of the bank, sits in my pocket for about 15 minutes, and then is gone.

I generally like to keep a few singles on me if I happen to drop by the strip club ( that was a joke) and some quarters if I need to operate some machine. I just found a ten dollar bill in a shirt pocket, so that's pretty cool, i'm not broke yet.

that pretty much sums up my case as well. i like to keep some cash but with atm's all over and a check card, it doesn't really matter much.

I rarely have actual paper money on me for the same reason as Bone. A mugger might score $10 off me if he was lucky (and he had a gun).

one time when i was a poor college kid, i was walking down the road when a car pulled next to me. a guy stuck a revolver out the window and asked me if i had any money. although i had a five dollar bill in my pocket, it was the only money i had for the whole weekend, so i told him no. the car drove off and i kept my five... and my life.

Since just about everything relies on a pin system (the dutch ATM), I rarely carry a whole lot of cash on me because I hate ending up with tons of 1 and 2 euro coins. They get heavy!

I carry very little cash on me, normally about £10/£20 at most

What he said.

My opinion: using cash is a negative reinforcement to spending. You're better able to remember how much you've spent when you are reducing a previously fixed amount with every transaction. If you go to the bank, withdraw $100, and then spend that $100 in 24 hours, you know immediately "I've spent $100 in the past 24 hours," which is itself a punishment for doing so. In contrast, if you pull out a check card you only see the smaller quantities as they go by. You're never faced with the reality that you are now $100 poorer than you were one day ago, which is essentially a reward for spending. One of the first things that any good budget counselor will do is tell a person to get rid of their credit cards AND their check cards, and switch entirely to cash so that they can let this natural reinforcement system work.

3 grand in a savings account, 1 grand in a debit account. All instant for when I need it, so I count it all as cash.

I hardly ever carry cash on me. I use my debit card for most of my transactions and my bus pass is electronic so I don't need cash.
