I was having a political conversation with a few buds of mine after work yesterday. A few of them are left leaning while a few are right leaning, nothing extreme. Needless to say, our conversations often get a bit heated but remain very interesting nonetheless. Anyway, out of the blue one of them says that "Since we can't seem to agree on anything nowadays and that most of us pledge our allegiance not to the United States, but to political parties that are supposed to be representing said United States why not just divide up the country?" No one took him seriously at first because he seemed to be joking around with the idea. However, I started to ponder about this a bit. This isn't the first time I have heard this idea tossed around. Most of the time, however, it comes from the mouth of some foreigner who will be out of here in 6 months to a year anyway so their opinion is irrelevant.

My question to you Freeones is this: Do any of you think that it would be a good idea to divide the country up into sections based solely on political points of view? And I don't mean the whole red state, blue state thing. I mean to legally form territories and boundaries much in the way the states are already divided up. I personally think it's a crap ass idea because political views change over time. Also, we already had a war over preserving the sanctity of the union and lord knows we don't really need another civil war.

Here you go:

It is a mighty big country with a hugely varied population. It would simplify some things to divide it into several nations, but it surely wouldn't solve every problem.

I bet that if the USA divided they'd suddenly become more of the world around them.

How do you know they haven't already done that?

The government doesn't tell you everything, you know.....

:taps nose:

This is interesting...in this thread I can't edit my posts :'P

I think America should become the next Canadian province.

First Newfoundland, then Delaware, then the world.

Wouldn't carving up the nation along political lines mean we're not adults who can work out and solve problems but we're a nation a narcissistic crybabies who take our balls and go away when the going gets tough? :dunno:

The point is Americans shoot themselves in both feet if they decide to divide the US. Which is why that won't be happening anytime soon.

No, I was wrong this is a bad idea. We do not need any further separation. Collectivism is what's needed in these times of trouble and this has to be global collectivism. No longer can these strict dividing lines keep us apart as a species. Can't you people see that we are all one? We just need a little time to shrug off the societal norms of the past because as you and I know deep down, they just haven't worked. We've given civilisation two thousand plus years to sort itself out and work and it hasn't. Petty squabbles between tribes and then nations over resources that could adequately be shared brake out all the time in what seems like a never ending cycle. War, genocide, famine have continued unabated as if they were the norm - without a single strong collective voice to cry out to ask "why?" What kind of beings are we to live like this. We've been wrong, our ancestors were wrong. But we can change things, we just have to admit this simple fact and build from it.

No more shall we be split by the lines on the map. We as a people must come together and erase those lines for they kill our inner soul and turn us into nothing more than the lizards that rule us. We can fix these problems, if only we could just find it in our brains to see that our planet would be a lot safer, cleaner and far more prosperous than it ever had been previously. If we just accepted this inevitable change that has so long been looked upon with contempt and disdain. A change that will be beneficial to all of us, not just our corporate masters, but ALL of us.

So brothers and sisters I here by pledge my allegiance to the One World Government! Let the Reptilian led Illuminati armies of Castle Doom finally take over. It is for the good of all mankind that we as a people come together, right now (over me (little song lyric joke there for your reading enjoyment (you're welcome))) as a people, in solidarity.

Ya'll tried that already once.

Certainly the US is VERY different regionally, and the Coasts are very different from "real" America.

Splitting it up would be great, but the South tried that once and it didn't go well for anyone...:dunno:

Things aren't that ridiculously bad are they? I mean what is the big fuss all about really? Healthcare? Thats been a thorn in our side for decades, its not terminal. Unemployment? The majority of americans still have jobs. Big ass oil spill off east coast? We've survived it before. There is no real reason to divide the country. These problems are pretty minor. Have a beer guys, life is pretty damn good.
