-- Did you or will you remember the dead? --

It's a special day, and for some people that day will be every day for the rest of their lives.

Did you observe a silence today? Will you take a moment from work or doing whatever you're doing, to think about what people have suffered and died for?

How do you feel about it?

I observed a 2 min silence at 11 o'clock.

It used to feel wierd when I was younger as I didn't know why we had to observe silence but as I grew older and discovered the reason for the silence it seems like it is the least I can do to show a mark of respect and gratitude for all those who fought so that I could have the freedom of choice.

Every Veteran's Day at work the supervisor gets on the PA and announces one minute of silence in honor of fallen veterans. Same on Memorial Day. There aren't a lot of folks working at the mail facility on holidays, but enough.

Rare Photo Of WW2 Journalist Ernie Pyle's Death Found

I didn't want to start another similar thread, so I'll put this news story here. It broke earlier this year but it seems appropriate now.

I do.

I think they are deserving it.

Most "rituals" have lost their meanings nowadays, but this day remains meaningfull for me.

Those who have sacrificed their lives, in injury or death, for our nation have given us a gift of which, frequently, is taken for granted. Offer them at least one minute of remembrance on this day.

Every November 10th at 9:05 am, Turkland (i hate saying Turkey) goes silent in memory of Kemal Ataturk the founder of Turkland and the greatest man in the history. We will remember him and other founding fathers forever. We also never forget our veterans and ANZAC. What a coincidence, last veteran of Turkish Indepence War (1919-1923) died today.

You guys do know that Veteran's Day has nothing to do with dead people...right?

Technically yea, but I sort of combine the days , if you will . . Memorial Day (Decoration Day) and Veterans Day. They both have the same sentimental meaning, honor those who have sacrificed for thy nation.

Technical merit to the CCT. Good call !

Needless to say, I haven't forgotten my brothers and sisters who've served in the military.

In the UK it is Armistice Day as WW1 ended at 11:00hrs on 11/11/1918 and now it is to honour all the fallen military and non military. Yes we did at work.

I didn't realize it had passed Nov. 1&2. A lot of interesting stuff I've seen about it on travel shows.

I never forget. Always have a poppy in the headlinder of every vehicle I own. Reminds me everyday of where I came from. (My grandfather served on D-Day and also afterward as an aircraft technician.)
