Was talking to a friend who just got hired and they pay $11 an hour (starting rate). And they really treat you well with their benefits package. How come other companies aren't catching on?

I worked for them about 10 years ago. Well, for them through their side company, WDS, which does the food samples. They paid $8.25 an hour, and they treated people like shit. Costco itself wasn't too much better, though they did pay $10 an hour. Most of the people that worked there were looking for other jobs.

The CEO figured out if he paid his people more than the average retailer, he would get a larger pool of applicants and more of a choice on quality workers.

Majority of the people employed there can care less for the job cuz it aint no different than Wal-Mart, but because they have a better starting wage and benifits, their options for leaving is slim and he has a better retention rate unlike other retailers.

It's the same business plan that Henry Ford came up with.
