I don't see his cognitive situation as the most worrying factor. As the thread title states, he is a chronic felon, and his published Project 2025.

I don't believe he and his backers will manage to torch the USA to the ground, but the next administrations will have their work cut out for them.

Even the Democrats are lowering the temperature on their own rhetoric saying things are going to be OK. Politicians play politics and marks get hustled.

You and I probably did not lose any rights. As @Supafly notes, some demographics will have a more difficult time exercising their rights over the longer-term. Other groups will lose rights they previously exercised. It will not be an overnight turn due to Trump’s election, but certain groups will be impacted as the courts become more conservative. SCOTUS eviscerated the Voting Rights Act 55 years after it was signed into law. It did not impact either of us, but it had a significant impact on others’ rights.

One thing we need to keep in mind as we discuss ‘democracy lost,’ Trump won a majority of the votes cast. Democracy did win. (We have a republic, so democracy is used colloquially.)

As Benjamin Franklin is noted as saying: we have “a republic, if you can keep it.” We need to keep it - regardless of who won and whether we liked the result.

That's much better, more common sense based, and less hysterical. I'll sign on to most of it. We will be just fine and maybe better off. Could you honestly, truthfully, and sincerely tell me who's actually making the decisions "protecting our democracy" in the White House right now? It's almost 3:30PM West Coast Time.

I realize if you break the law there should be consequences but, by ensnared, are you saying legal immigrants like my wife or her mom may be in jeopardy of deportation if Donald Trump gets his way?

I think the Democrats should take advice from Bernie Sanders. He's made several wise constructive critiques of the Democrat Party over the years. I admire his fighting spirit.
