Commuters leave pregnant women standing... out of fear they'll confuse bump for belly

Nifa McLaughlin, editor of gurgle.com, said: ‘It is ridiculous that the health of young mums is being put at risk because of embarrassment.

‘We’ve all been in that awkward situation, but we would encourage commuters to swallow their pride and offer their seats.

‘It is worth risking a red face if it ensures that a pregnant woman is able to complete a crowded rushhour journey safely.’

I'm one of those that would be too scared to offer my seat (I normally stand anyway) to someone where there was even a remote possibility that they were just fat and not pregnant, I'm sure most women will get more than annoyed and embarassed if you assume they're pregnant rather than overweight, I wouldn't want to upset someone like that rather than saving my own embarassment. Not just when offering seats but also serving female customers in stores etc. What about the rest of you?
