Kevin Smith Invades Reality TV With Comic Book Men

He brought geekdom to the masses with his films Clerks and Mallrats. Now Kevin Smith turns to TV with AMC's Comic Book Men, a reality show set at Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, the comics shop Smith owns in Red Bank, New Jersey. The fanboy auteur tells TV Guide Magazine why his newest project is scarier than a zombie attack.

TV Guide Magazine: Are you surprised to be back on TV after your bad experience with Clerks: The Animated Series?
Smith: F--king stunned! When that ran in 2000, ABC ordered six episodes and only aired two. It should still be on the air today! But here's what's really haunting: AMC came along and said, "We're ordering six episodes." I'm, like, "We're cursed! We're dead!" [Laughs] I felt like I was in Battlestar Galactica: What happened before will happen again!

TV Guide Magazine: Seriously? You're that spooked?
Smith: Nah, actually I think this is going to work. Now that we're a little deeper into it, it feels like it might actually pan out. This is AMC, dude! They don't put you on the air in a whimsy. They gave this show very serious consideration. But I still feel a little like Roy Scheider in Jaws - I've seen the shark up close and I don't want to go through that hell again.

i was gonna say the same thing. if your a kevin smith fan how do you not know about this show?

I found it flipping through the channel guide.

The show is on a channel I do not usually watch.
I can't remember the last time I watched AMC.

I do not follow Kevin Smith around.
Also, he does not call me and tell me things he will be doing. :D

Now if the show was on History channel or something, I would have known. ;)

so i am figuring you dont watch The Walking Dead?

I love Kevin Smith stuff, including some of the podcasts, but I find comic books boring as shit, and the nerds who work in the store off-putting.

I tried watching this show after the walking dead. It's fucking boring as shit...

i never ever had a comic book collection or interest in comic's i love this show (K.Smith Biased #1) but i like seeing the stuff some people bring into the store and what they "saw it online selling for" and think they can get that amount.
does anyone have any comics or sports cards worth lots of money ...IF sold properly?
i own a Mario Lemieux rookie card topps version not OPC so it's like $150 if i was to get that from anyone. i havent touched or looked at it in well over 8 years possible 10-12 years. locked away in a screw down.

the guys that work there dont know anything about comics. personally, i find the show to be like roadkill... i want to look away, but cant help to watch. besides, it makes me feel smart, and more attractive as a male watching those twirps spew out false "facts" and ripping off customers by lowballing the crap out of them

I found it online last night and watched a few episodes. It's not an ultra good show but I liked it. I t is afterall a reality type of show so there will be some slow times that seem dull. I got some laughs out of it though.

When I went to look for it I actually thought it was a sitcom not a reality type show.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
I watched a couple of episodes and lost intrest. I can't stand Kevin Smith these days, he's too full of himself.
