A third party candidate is essentially the sitting president of the United States. Both the Republican and Democrat parties could fracture into about 6 parties right now. The most eminent would be the Democrat party at this time. It’s a mess.
Many people who usually don't vote had voted for Bernie in the primary. Most if them dis not voted for Hillary in the general election (some even choosed to vote for Trump 'cause he was an anti establishment candidate just like Bernie). Had they voted for Hillary she would have won. But they don't want establishment candidates like her.
