Preaching to the converted, in a sense, I used to sell CIC / ASU insurances and and have a CIC plan myself, and everyone should have some form of "cover your arse" sorted out if they have money they could save or are made aware of insurance options. Millions of otherwise intelligent people don't. But we can dwell on how the world should be, or just deal with it how it is, and people will stick their hands in their pockets if they care enough about the person that's having the problems, even if it's a situation that could be avoided with better foresight. I'm not sure many people have the foresight to plan for the medical bills incurred by the possibility of having their face smashed in by a psychotic ex, but being unable to work, sure.
I dunno, like I say, it's going to be a personal thing. People try to help who is worth helping to them. I've got no problems trying to do what I can for Ms Mack. Hell, I sent $84 to a friend today because his wife's had to have some extra medical treatment the last few months and they're going to struggle to make their rent. And I haven't masturbated to either of them anywhere near as often as I have to Christy. Not even close.
Again, I can't speak for the rest of the world, but it bothers me when I see "famous" people (pornstars in this case) coming to others with their hands out because of poor financial planning. I'm sure Christy Mack didn't expect to have her face beat in, nor would I expect her to have upwards of $20,000 to pay for the treatment and therapy to recover from such a beating, but to rally around this one particular incident/person and say "Help her, she can't pay her bills because she can't work so we have to" when there are so many others in just as bad or worse situations with no friends/family to call on or no safety net is....I'm not quite sure what the word I'm looking for is. Her friends and family have raised over 30,000 dollars and hope to make 100,000...all going to her and her various needs as I'm led to believe. I'd like to think that her treatment wouldn't necessitate that much capital, but I don't know.
Due to the ACA (and I'm not going to get into any sort of argument about that), there is a state exchange for health care in Nevada. I can't say I know much about how it works there, but where I live I know that insurance will cover at least some of what she might have done (again, I defer to personal experience). I'd be interested to know if she enlisted.
Lastly (and I hate that I'm on a tangent now), I have no problem giving money away to people who need it. I donate to various charities. I've given my good friends money so they can afford the rent on their house. I help pay the mortgage on my house and take care of the various utilities myself with no expectation of reimbursement. I'm not saying that if Christy had covered her ass she'd be able to afford treatment, but the amount that's being raised (again, as far as I know)
solely for her is staggering. I see no reason to contribute to the case of one when there are more cases of many that'd be worth my time and money.
