Send him in alone against the Yakuza! At least she'll be taller than most of the Japanese policemen

Chihuahua In Chief: Tiny Pooch Joins Police

The latest recruits in Japan's police academy are trained up and ready to serve - including the country's first Chihuahua police dog.

Momo, who weighs just 6.6lb (3kg), is among 32 pooches to make the cut from 70 that tried out for the ***** in Yamatokoriyama in the west of the country.

Despite competition from larger breeds, including golden retrievers, beagles and German shepherds, she barked and sniffed her way through the final exams to success.

Momo starts work in January and will be used in rescue operations including after earthquakes, where she will be able to squeeze her tiny frame into places too narrow for traditional rescue dogs.

As well as her one-year contract with the *****, the long-haired Chihuahua got another reward for being top dog - her owner cooked her favourite dish of chicken breasts stewed in tomatoes.
