Is the Chevy Volt a sales flop? Yes, it is.

General Motors has repeatedly claimed a sales target for 2011 of 10,000 units for the plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt sedan. But, nine months into the year, they've only shipped 3,895 off the lot. In fact, in September sales numbers, released an hour ago, GM sold only 723 Volts. Will GM fail to meet its own sales predictions?

Oil fell for a third straight day on Friday on worries that the global economy is headed for recession and could cut demand for crude.

Economies around the world are at risk of stalling, and that has punished prices of stocks and commodities. U.S. political leaders are in a standoff that could force the government to shut down, a manufacturing survey suggested a slowdown in China, and Europe hasn't solved its banking crisis.

Moody's downgraded eight Greek banks, because of the country's deteriorating economy. The concern is that a Greek default could hurt other nations in Europe and beyond.

Blue&Gold: If the price of oil is down so much, why are gas prices still so high? The phrase price gouging should be on the lips of every lawmaker in D.C. Want to know what's holding the economy back...high fuel prices. Price of fuel goes down and people have a little bit more expendable income.

They are trying to keep gas high to make more profits and push us into vehicles we do not want. It's time to stop their agenda and demand gas prices drop considerably. :nono:

Although the idea of electric cars is hardly new, it's only beginning to gain ground.

Seeing the new concept models at the auto convention in Frankfurt, nearly all major brands (BMW, Mercedes, Kia, VW) had some nice-looking electric cars. And rightfully so because the more they develop the more they present themselves as a valid alternative to petroleum cars. Right now though, as much as I hate to, I agree with you :tongue: The power just doesn't last long enough.

Gas will never be cheap again. People need to either shut up about gas prices as they continue to buy low MPG cars, or they need to buy efficient cars.

And, by the way, no one is forcing anyone to buy efficient cars. Feel free to continue to buy gas hog/huge vehicles. Don't expect sympathy when you complain about gas prices, however.

Meh, electric cars suck... after working for a car company for 7 years my opinion is that electric is crap...

Hydrogen on the other hand... now that I´d buy... if there were places where you could fill them up....

OK Tubular-Dude, it's time for some deep breaths into a paper bag. Making a product available on the market is hardly pushing an agenda. And there's nothing wrong with the green agenda anyway (as long as you're not a vegan :1orglaugh ).

I think the slow sales are more a product of people not trusting Chevy to make a decent electric car. If I had the money, I'd buy one today. But it wouldn't be a Chevy.

Do I like expensive gas? No. no I do not. However, I don't just bitch about it and continue to buy huge vehicles. I recently got a newer vehicle, and it gets 42 mpg on the highway. I'm spending way less in gas than I used to, even though gas prices are high.

And really, the technology exists to make exceedingly efficient vehicles that are not that small. The administration and oil companies need to get out of bed in order for North American vehicles to achieve the mileage that many other countries are currently enjoying.

A small example - the Smart car. The American version gets MUCH worse mileage than the model the rest of the world uses. It didn't pass American automotive "standards." They are actively preventing high mileage vehicles from being sold in this country, and that's just stupid.
