Celebrity Big Brother in Trouble

I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about on here yet (did a search but i couldn't find anything)

Been all over the news the last couple of days.

Basicly, Indian movie star Shilpa Shetty is one of the contestants in this years Celebrity Big Brother UK. First there was simple bullying because, well, Ms Shetty is a complete idiot. Then it has built up and built up into what everyone thinks is racial abuse (even Shilpa)

The show has been shown over in India, and they ain't happy... In the streets, mobs were making dolls representing Big Brother producers, and BURNING them...

Governments have even been envolved, Big Brother has lost sponsership, and even talk off Channel 4 being sold off...

The most amusing thing for me is the fact that in India they are burning the stick men who are meant to be the producers of the show... If it was the other way round, and a british contestant went over to india and recieved abuse, would any brits burn images of their shows producers?... I think not (just an example of their extremely different culture)

I hope this doesn't spark any angry terrorist actions. (I some how always knew Jade Goody would be the cause of my death...)



Anyway, i was just wondering what anyone who has seen this shows opinion is.

Jade is more of a simple fuck-wit than a racist. Hopefully this will kill her career and the annoying lump will sit in her house eating pie.

She's being trying to patch things up with Shilpa just to try and get her out of this mess. She knows she's in the shit!

I know many people love shows like Big Brother and Survivor and their ilk. The young woman is very beautiful and maybe a good actress. I can't help but wonder what makes someone go through all the crap that these shows dish out even though there is a nice prize at the end. I just cannot see subjecting myself to such treatment for any amount. And from what I can see the contestants are not starving, desparate people in need of a major operation to save their lives or families. All I see are people(young mostly) who are desperate to be on TV. The whole purpose seems to be to show how people can and sometimes will stab each other in the back. After all the number of shows like this that have been on(a very successful type of show) anyone who goes on them should be ready to be treated badly. Remember the Survivor that was going to team up by Race? I can not help but wonder about the judgement of those who participate on them. As always, My:2 cents:

I hate all reality TV and watch none of it. The only reason I took notice of this is the subject it's on. Which is one of the lowest things in this world. This woman has just damaged this for the sole reason of trying to grab personal fame. Yes she's massive in Bollywood, making her a household name in parts of Asia. Instead of actually fighting against racists she just made people question anyone who accuses another person of it.

To answer Bubb's question. The reason they do reality TV is simple money.

I haven't commented because (like Poggy) I don't want to waste any precious time of my life on BB (or any other "reality" TV show) for that matter.

If one wants to register their feelings about BB, don't just somplain and then watch to see what happens next - use the remote and either switch off or switch to another channel. Hurt Channel 4 & Endemol where it really counts - in their pockets....

well you stipulated that public outrage could spur a terrorist attack, I don't know if that was in jest, and that this wouldn't have happened had it been an english person in the role. plus the fact that we have 6 or so pages about peopel freaking out because muslims were praying on a plane, if it was an american or a european that was getting harrased I KNOW that people would be shitting a brick about it. it just seems that in an a thread about racism the tone of the post was really generalising and one-sided about cultures and ethnic groups.

Don't forget status, the proverbial 15 minutes of fame that Andy Warhol predicted. Some cannot wait. I never watch these shows either, just read about them sometimes and occasionally cannot resist making a comment.

Totally agree and we all have to remember that she was like that in the 1st Big Bro she was in as well.I don't see her coming back at all after whats happened and she deserves everything that comes to her :ban:

As for the program itself.I still think it will go on as strong as ever.What happened was nothing to do with BB,all it did was expose these idiots for who they really are.What was really funny to me was the fact that BB made Jade Goody (Gobby) famous and now they have completely destroyed her which is a typical pastime of the British press :rofl:

It will be interesting to see how Danielle,Jo and Jade's boyfriend get on now.But in reference to the "Top lesbian pairings" I wouldn't mind seeing a set involving Danielle and Jo.You never know it might lead to a fruitfull new career :thefinger

The main reason at the end of the day about all this anyway comes down to money. The main reason it's kicked up such a fuss everywhere is the trade relations Britain has with India. This is the reason it's been highly discussed and what should the true reason the possibility of any racist comments was made and what should be done about them. The goverment are scared to death that it will effect the relationship with one of their biggest trade relations. If this wasn't the matter it would never have been brought up, especially in parliment. Which IMO is wrong.

Please check your sources. But is there any rule against being from a different culture? Then what about all those sounds about equality, anti-apartheid etc.etc?

By whom? Indians? They are already burdened with a lot. Know about Kashmir? Indians give a lot against terrorism. If not Indians, as I think, then who? Or has the terrorism already started?

I don't know what you consider terrorism, but when i see an angry mob on the news with burning objects shouting about death and war, no matter if they are white, brown, black or fucking blue, i see that as terrorizing...
