Buying bass guitar. Need advice.

I've been shopping around for a 4-string electric bass, and I'm mainly interested in playing hard rock/metal. :banger: My budget is around $500. Any suggestions?

About a year ago I bought a Shechter Stiletto Custom. It sounds great, feels great, and the only complaint I really have is, the case was sold separately. I bought it from Guitar Centers, who also own the web site Musicians Friend, which I have also done business with, and have no complaints with. They had to order it from the warehouse, and had them ship it to the store, instead of my house, because of the weather. The model I ordered comes with EMG humbuckers, which unlike 6 string EMG's do not sound muddy. It came out of the box set up very nicely, and they have 3 or 4 other models. One is a step down, but the body wood is not mahogany, even though it still has a very nice maple top. The models above mine, have through necks, and I believe all are under a grand. If you really know how to play, and you are in a band, I would buy a Rickenbacker, but you're looking at at least $2500.00 for one of those. The only other logical choice would be a Fender. They have come around and offer several configurations, for their Jazz, and Precision models, so you aren't limited to just single coil, or only one split single coil. I couldn't justify spending the money on a Music Man Stingray, but they are supposed to have an incredible tone. Unfortunately, I don't believe the neck is varnished, it's only rubbed with several coats of *** stock oil, so unless you are an experienced player, it's not really a fast neck. I think you should check out musicians friend web site. You can check out many models by style, price, and manufacturer.

There is a company called Dillion. They make high quality replicas of more expensive guitars. I own several expensive guitars, Jackson, PRS, Gibson, Fender, B.C. Rich etc... I bought a few Dillions off of Ebay and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and have bought several. Look them up on on Ebay you will get more bang for the buck with your budget. They basically sell factory direct on Ebay. Seriously, take my advice.

Edit: Example, right in your budget.

It depends. Brand new Fender Precision can be had for $500. It's bare bones but you can probably get it cheaper on sale. If slightly used isn't a problem, along with BC's suggestion, try a pawn shop. I've walked by several in my area with some basses that were a steal. I never went in to play one, so I don't know what condition they were in.

Ibanez basses are nothing to pass up if you ask me. Head over to your local store and plug those suckers in.

I used to play guitar a lot, and I like the work and sounds of Satriani and Vai... which both happen to play Ibanez.
