Bloody Sunday report blames British soldiers fully

Relatives of 13 Catholic demonstrators shot to death by British troops on Northern Ireland's Bloody Sunday cried tears of joy Tuesday as an epic fact-finding probe ruled that their loved ones were innocent and the soldiers entirely to blame for the 1972 slaughter.

...The probe found that soldiers opened fire without justification at unarmed, fleeing civilians and lied about it for decades, refuting an initial British investigation that branded the demonstrators as Irish Republican Army bombers and gunmen.

It's great that the truth is finally out, but when will we see the dream come true for a united Ireland?

There will unfortunately never be a united Ireland, the policy of divide and conquer practiced by the the British Empire has put that out of the question. The Protestants of Northern Ireland will forever remain loyal to the Crown and will have no wish of joining with Catholic Ireland and I also doubt the Irish Republic would want to incorporate Northern Ireland back along with all it's Protestant citizens. I'm pretty sure that modern Britain is very much different to the Brutal Imperialist Britain of the past and this inquiry was a long time coming, shooting unarmed civilians/protesters is never right and challenges the very principles of Liberty and Freedom Of Speech which so many people have died for over the centuries to give us the things we take for granted nowadays. RIP all those who died and I'm glad the families have some sort of closure.

the Brits were always to blame for it, everybody knows it, but i'm glad the British government has finally admitted it. just surprised that it was the Tories, and not 'appease everyone and get votes' Blair.

Erin Go Bragh!

A united Ireland is probably not far off.The demographics just aren't in favor of the protestants of the north being able to resist it.Protestants are no where near as big a majority in the north as they once were and soon will be the minority.

For the record I am descendent of Northern Protestant immigrants and while I have many catholic friends ( at least they were catholic as kids but don't really practice it much now),that doesn't mean I would like to turn over my freedom to their chuches beliefs which is what is at stake in Ireland.

The problem I have with unification of Ireland is how Southern Ireland lets religion into the govt by not allowing divorce or abortion.

If I was a protestant or any other resident of Northern Ireland who wants to be free of being subject to laws dictated by catholic doctrine I would be looking to find a new home somewhere else now in the UK.

Funyy how people talk about freedom from some other religious extremists and terrorists and how we should never give in, but the IRA and the catholics of Ireland prove that terrorism works to get what you want.

Was it the catholics land and country once? Yes
Should that be restored? Yes
But they should have to promise to protect the rights of non catholics and not allow catholic church inspired laws, they have not done that and that is the problem.

Well that's a bit of a pointless statement. We could debate about one person's terrorist and another one's freedom fighter, but what's the point? Of course terrorism works and will be used for that reason by whomever wishes to justify it as a means to an end.

I certainly agree and it is this religious nonsense that has divided the country far more in modern history than the British, IMO. But the UK still stands as a leftover of it's imperialist conquests and it needs to be pushed along to further crumbling. It's more for the younger generations that care less about religion and more about having a sovereign nation of their own and the end of all colonialism in the 21st century.
