Big Ten divisions: Leaders and Legends

Does this sound stupid to anyone else? Also, if you look at the divisions several of the natural rivalries from neighboring states are broken up. For example, my Alma mater, The University of Iowa, is in the same division with Michigan and Michigan State but not Illinois and Wisconsin, which both border Iowa. Or that Michigan and Ohio State aren't in the same division is going to raise havoc with fans of both schools.

It would have made eminently more sense to make the divisions based upon location, i.e. North and South or East and West.

I understand they were trying to figure out how to get equal media representation for both divisions but c'mon, man! Even the simplest of people could see that arbitrarily rearranging these schools without thought of tradition is not in their best interests.

Then there's the whole name thing. I always thought the eleven hidden in the word Ten was cheap and unimaginative. Now I see they're going to retain the name Big Ten even though there's twelve teams. If I were a sports writer or commentator I would start referring to them as the Big 10-11-12, just to irritate the commissioner and Athletic Directors because they are so obstinate.:2 cents:
