According to an ABC News article http://abcnews.go.com/Business/black-barbie-sold-white-barbie-walmart-store/story?id=10045008&page=1 , people seem to be all up in arms about the price of Barbie dolls at Walmart these days. The reason is because a store in Louisiana had a white doll on sale for $5.93, and those racist jerks had an identical black barbie doll right next to it on sale for only $3.00.
Apparently, the critics were offended because they felt the lower price was "devaluing the black doll."
Lisa Wade, an assistant sociology professor at Occidental College in Los Angeles said that "when white dolls outsell black dolls, it's usually because black parents are more likely than white parents to buy their children dolls of a different race."
Apparently, Wade thought that "Walmart could have chosen to keep the dolls at equal prices in an effort not to "reproduce whatever ugly inequalities are out there."
Then again, Walmart could have lowered the price because they valued the black dolls so highly that they ordered far more of them than they did the white dolls and were left with a surplus and were trying to sell them out. But that can't be. Everyone knows Walmart is a profit making corporation, and is therefore inherently evil.
My advice to Walmart is to respond by raising the price on the black dolls to $50 each. This will send the public a very clear message that they place a high value on black dolls. Of course, then, we won't hear any more complaints.
Another thing Walmart could do is to replace both dolls with copies of the book "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". Then children could learn the valuable lesson that when you make claims about something that isn't there, people will start ignoring you. Then, when you really do have something to complain about, nobody will listen. Just a thought.
