I don't think he really wants or expects to play in the NFL now. He's riding the wave of his victim status and impressing easily impressional people. Why would he give that up to get chased around for four quarters also exploiting the fact that he isn't any good at all? Why is an owner obligated to give him employment if he knows it will alienate a good number of his team's supporters?
