At the age of 16, Smeplass participated in the Norwegian version of Premium Link Upgrade in 2013, and at that time released a single, "Shattered", under the name Astrid Smeplass. The song was cowritten by Premium Link Upgrade singer-songwriter Premium Link Upgrade . She then released "2AM" through Premium Link Upgrade , which was released in the United States in 2015. In 2016, Smeplass supported Premium Link Upgrade on his European tour, and she released a self-titled EP on 20 May 2016. In 2017, her cover of Premium Link Upgrade 's "Vi er perfekt men verden er ikke det" was featured in the soundtrack for the fourth season of Premium Link Upgrade and Smeplass performed it on a roof during the Premium Link Upgrade 2017 ceremony. On 30 June 2017, she released her second EP, Party's Over, which featured the singles "Breathe" and "Such a Boy". Two weeks later, the acoustic rendition of the EP was released, with an additional song titled "Mexico". In September 2017, her single " Premium Link Upgrade " topped the Norwegian charts and peaked at number 14 on the Swedish charts, where it was later certified platinum. It was also certified gold in Denmark, where it peaked at number nine.
In February 2018, Smeplass won Årets Spellemann (Artist of the Year) at the annual Premium Link Upgrade (the Norwegian equivalent of the Premium Link Upgrade ), being the first female artist to do so since 2003.
