Conspiracy theories about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin being linked to the Muslim Brotherhood publicly dribbled down to the lower echelons of conservative politics this week, with an Arizona Tea Party leader promising to launch a recall effort against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for his defense of Abedin.

Last week, a group of Republican lawmakers led by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) drew widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle for the loosely sourced contention that Huma Abedin, the Muslim-American wife of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

McCain strongly pushed back against this charge, taking to the Senate floor to call the allegations "nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable woman."

Wes Harris, the founder and chairman of the Original North Phoenix Tea Party, now says McCain's words have given him grounds to mount an effort to unseat the longtime senator.

In an interview with the Arizona Capitol Times, Harris called McCain an "embarrassment," before laying out a variety of unapologetic anti-Islamic sentiments.

“Have you ever read the Quran? I suggest you do so, because anyone that is a Muslim is a threat to this country, and that’s a fact,” Harris told the Times. “There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim. If they are Muslim they have to follow the Quran. That’s their religion and that’s their doctrine.”

According to the Times, Harris believes Muslims are incapable of being loyal to the U.S., because he claims that their faith in Islam and the Quran trumps any other allegiance. He also apparently believes Muslims shouldn't be able to serve in the State Department at all.

“Is [Abedin] a Muslim? Is she an active Muslim?” Harris asked the Times. “I rest my case. That’s all she needs to be.”

In his email airing his grievances, Harris also linked to the Bare Naked Islam blog, an internet clearinghouse for Islamophobia that claims to have further proof of Abedin's supposed ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. One post touts a new report from the Center for Security Policy, the right-wing think tank behind the paper that led to Bachmann and her cohort's initial inquiry, that seeks to unveil the "Islamist" roots of Abedin's mother.

While other top Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), came out to reject Bachmann's accusation, Harris says McCain's defense of Abedin is just the latest in a string of actions that have warranted a recall effort.

“Go to hell, Senator, it’s time for you to take your final dirt nap,” Harris concludes.

So, how are you guys feeling about the TeaParty now?:rolleyes::surprise::suspicious:

Michelle Bachmann needs to be voted out of the political picture, and fast, before she does any more damage. What a fucking nut job. And hopefully, she will take the rest of the tea baggers with her.

See, this is what I don't get: the various Tea parties originally claimed that their main mission and goal was to address reckless fiscal policies and bloated government spending. I mean, what does "Tea" actually stand for? Taxed Enough Already, right? That doesn't sound so bad, now does it? Heck, I can see a need for that too. So if their (true and primary) mission and goal was reflective of Ross Perot's United We Stand movement from the 90's, maybe even I would be tempted to get involved. But in truth, what they typically get involved in (at least as much, if not more than fiscal issues) are social issues. Maybe a few of their members really are more concerned with fiscal issues. But these days, IMO, what this movement really is, is just a populist GOP'er cover for social conservatives, extreme right-wingers, neocons, Evangelicals and Zionists (who have no interest in or knowledge of fiscal policy) to push a hate-filled, right wing social agenda. Why the hell is the Tea party getting its panties in a wad over things like abortion or a witch hunt for Muslims? And why is it that so many of the Tea partiers, who got elected to Congress in 2010, seem to lack any working knowledge of (practical) fiscal policy? Hell, give me a couple of weekends and I could teach a slow-witted parrot to constantly say, "Cut taxes and deregulate! Cut taxes and deregulate!" every frickin' time I asked him a question... any question!

And yet again, how do the generic conservative GOP'ers handle those who show that they'd rather think for themselves and not follow the herd? Call them a "RINO" and try to get them recalled from office. The GOP has become like a cult. Not much different from the Moonies and others. No dissension. No alternate views. One mind. One view. Answer the questionnaire correctly or risk being shunned. Sad. Really sad.

Rey C you're right. This Tea Party thing looked like a nice way to get some on the fence people to move right. I'm a conservative and I'm all about that. What the fuck have they become? Some shit head from the Original North Phoenix Tea Party thinks he can take on John McCain? I'll bet this dude can't get 20 people into his basement for a birthday party let alone rally a group to unseat McCain. Yet this is the best the right can muster for an election cycle. The shit makes me sick. I thought McCain was weak 4 years ago but I'd say he'd be a better shot than Romney today. If the same guy that wants to drop bombs on Syria goes onto the senate floor and defend someone that is a Muslim, AGAINST HIS OWN PARTY, just shut your mouth and respect what he has to say.

I knew what the Tea Party was five minutes after they formed and was really surprised they pulled their charade off as long as they did. It seems most people have finally figured out that they're nothing but disgruntled Bush republicans who realized that associating with Bush is campaign poison. Same intolerant social agenda, same clueless fiscal agenda. It's a shame a guy like the old maverick McCain didn't take the reigns of the Tea Party early on because it could have turned into something worth supporting.

I would describe myself as a moderate with a foot planted firmly to the left of the middle.

When the Tea Party started to surface I was curious, but quickly putt off by the ignorance of the crowd. I know a man who judges by the group is a pea-wit, but they really seem to be the party of the scared. The party will die off. However, why you're in the death throws, please give us our Gadsden Flag back. It is our heritage and not yours to claim exclusively.

Leave McCain alone. He is like the rest of us, human and far from perfect. However, he has has character and class. Something Wes and his crown lack.
