Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said Wednesday that he was taking a medical leave of absence and had put Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook in charge of the day-to-day running of the company.
Apple (AAPL) shares fell 6% in after-hours trading, following a suspension of trading for the news announcement.
"My health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought," Jobs said in an e-mail to Apple employees.
On Jan. 5, Jobs issued a letter to counter reports that he was seriously ill. At the time, he said his doctors had determined that a hormone imbalance was robbing his body of the proteins it needed to be healthy. He had noticeably lost weight last year. . . .]
[ . . .Jobs has been dogged by health concerns since he was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer and had surgery in mid-2004.
We can only wish him well
