All-Around Best Work Shoe/Boot

As far as top notch quality goes, which brand has the best work shoes and boots?

It isn't always easy to know until you've bought some and it is too late. I know everybody has preferences, but I'm talking about work shoes and boots that are built to last.

I'm not a big boot guy. But, over the years, "good" ones: 1) have steel toes / are BUILT for construction guys, 2) have .. leather at the top rear, so that they don't .. "chafe" when you wear them for extended periods of time.

If you have one in your area, I highly recommend "Red Wing". The most comfortable work boot I've ever worn. Cost me about $300, but it was worth it. I got 4 years out of a pair, but I was a truck driver/dock worker. They can be resoled by anyone that can do Goodyear welt soles, and if you clean and condition them regularly, the uppers last a long time. I neglected mine, and they got dry and cracked, so it wasn't worth it to me to resole them. The great thing about Red Wing is, they measure your foot, and you get the actual width you need, not just med., wide, or extra wide, they are lettered like in the old days, so they fight just right. If you're in a union, you get a discount, and they separate the boots in the store, by "made in America", and not made here. Another good brand is "Wolverine", or "Dickies". I'm not sure which stores carry those. Another good brand, if you have a store near you, is "Knapp".

My dad and brother are both builders and they swear by DeWalt. They use some of their other products too, not just protective gear.

I like the steel toe Herman Survivors they sell at Wal-Mart. I'm on my second pair because the first pair lasted six years.
