Al Gore, UN panel share Nobel for Peace

By DOUG MELLGREN and MATT MOORE, Associated Press Writers

"OSLO, Norway - Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change jointly won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for fighting it."

Another well respected group who seems to think there is truth to what Al and others are saying.

"We face a true planetary emergency," Gore said. "The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity."

And winner for best oscar goes to...

Or maybe I'm just too cynical.

Then again...

One of the advisers said that while Gore is unlikely to rule out a bid in the coming days, the prospects of the former vice president entering the fray in 2008 are "extremely remote."

But the prospects are still there.

Thank you Oslo for NOT choosing Bono or Helmut Kohl!

Another thing comes to my mind:

Jimmy Carter received the Nobel prize, so did the Carter-sponsored deal between Sadat and Begin and the Oslo Accords supervised by Bill Clinton.

... is anyone still in doubt why Europe has never warmed up to Republican politicians?

The last Republican to to become Nobel laureate was Henry Kissinger sparking a SNL sketch with Gilda Radner and Belushi as Henry K.:

Radner: "What was the grandest day in your life, Mr. Secretary?"
Belushi: "The day I received the Nobel Peace Prize for ending the Vietnam War!"
Radner: "What was the most miserable day in your life?"
Belushi: "The day the Vietnam War ended!"

Yet another feather in the cap for Gore. I still can't believe there are those who refuse to acknowledge global warming.

I was really happy to read this news headlines this morning that Al Gore won. He's the man, in my book. One thing for global warming deniers to consider, in their criticisms of An Inconvienent Truth, Gore wouldn't have been awarded the Nobel Prize if the overwhelming vast majority of scientists agree with him.
