Adolescence now ends at twenty-five

Adolescence no longer ends when people hit 18, according to updated guidelines being given to child psychologists.

The new directive is designed to extend the age range that child psychologists can work with from 18 years old up to 25.

It is hoped the initiative will stop children being ‘rushed’ through their childhood and feeling pressured to achieve key milestones quickly, reports the BBC.
‘We are becoming much more aware and appreciating development beyond [the age of 18] and I think it’s a really good initiative,’ child psychologist Laverne Antrobus from London’s Tavistock Clinic told the BBC.

There are now three stages of adolescence, according to the BBC report: early adolescence that ranges from 12 to 14 years, middle adolescence from 15 to 17 years and 18 and over is classed as late adolescence.

It has been introduced because research now suggests the brain continues developing through and passed teenage years, well into a person’s mid-twenties and thirties.

The new guidance is also to make ensure that over 18s don’t miss out on opportunities, or are forgotten about, in terms of health and education.

 Communists

Adolescence ends when you're independant, when you no longer need mom and dad to put food on the table and a roof over your head.

The thing is, this moment comes now later than before : many kids go to college (or any other kind of post-graduating studies) after graduating from high school so they get that independance later than previous generations did. Alos, since mimimym wage is not a living wage and is often what they get for their 1st job, even after getting their first job, they often still need their parent's support

The pussification of America. My gosh! Give this poor widdle thing a safe space and a $200,000 Masters degree in post modern feminism (or some other made up bullshit) and wonder why she can't find a job.

They're soft. They're fragile. They're irresponsible. They're weak. My father's generation would cut through them like a hot knife through butter.

These little millennial buttercups are the way they are because we allow them to be that way. The size of a goldfish is largely determined by the size of the bowl that it's in. At some point you have to walk on your own. So the longer that society and parents run behind junior, making sure that he doesn't fall and get a boo-boo, the longer that he will be a baby with a driver's license.

There's nothing at all wrong with going to college... if you have a reason and a plan for going. But it's not for everyone. A good technical or vocational school might be just as beneficial. But going anywhere, just to be going somewhere, is simply marking time. And if you didn't have a plan going in, you probably won't have a plan coming out. The so called student loan crisis is a self-created problem. No different than most other forms of debt, it's far too easy for kids and their parents to load up on debt to finance an education (sometimes of questionable value), without having a plan as to how to pay it back. And now we have a generation of weaklings who claim that they're still kiddies and the taxpayers should rush in and rescue them from debts that they made. They do not want to be responsible. Why would they? That's hard. After all, just as the article implies, we wouldn't want to make adolescents responsible for adult decisions, would we? Forcing people into adulthood, who have spent their early years getting participation ribbons just for breathing, seems cruel.

You're 18 and a day? Yes? OK. Now get your shit together. Get your ass in gear. Go to school. Get a degree or certificate. Get a job or join the military. Move out of your parents' basement. Stop playing video games and watching porn 14 hours a day. Start making life decisions for yourself. And most of all, don't stumble around thinking that society owes you anything or should take care of you if you screw up. If you trip and fall, get the fuck back up! Just like when you really were a baby, that's part of the learning process in how to walk. And some day, you'll maybe, just maybe, be able to run!

And one last thing... stay the hell off my lawn!

may be stop pushing kids into college. college delay adulthood
Yeah, unqualified or low qualified jobs are being moved to China, India and okther countries where you can pay people 1$/day but let's not send our kids to college

Isn't normal, logic that, when the life expectancy gets longer, adolescence gets longer as well ?
The real problem is that childhood ends earlier now, kids become adolescent younger.
