A Canadian Teen Hanged Herself After Everybody At School Saw Pictures Of Her Alleged Rape

A 17-year-old Nova Scotia girl died Sunday more than a year after a "viral" photo of her alleged rape turned her into a social pariah at school. The family of Rehtaeh Parsons blames her suicide on her classmates' relentless bullying. They also blame the police who never prosecuted the four boys who allegedly raped their daughter when she was just 15.

"My daughter wasn’t bullied to death, she was disappointed to death," her father, Glen Canning posted on his personal website. "Disappointed in people she thought she could trust, her school, and the police."

Parsons' story has drawn comparisons to the recent rape in Steubenville, Ohio, which created an international outcry because of graphic images that circulated online. Both Parsons and the unnamed 16-year-old Steubenville victim were vilified online after their alleged assaults.

After four boys allegedly raped Parsons at a house party in November 2011, one of the boys distributed a photo of the assault to "everyone in her school ... where it quickly became viral," her mother says on a Facebook page called "Angel Rehtaeh." Boys who saw the picture asked her for sex, and other students called her a slut, her mother told the Toronto Star.

I really have no words to express the disgust that I'm feeling right now. How can they say they didn't have sufficient evidence?!? There were fucking pictures, for Christ's teeth! And now they're looking into whether they fucked something up. What a fucking joke. If I were this girl's father I would make sure those fucking shit stains spent the rest of their lives wondering what life with their peckers would've been like.

First the happenings, of which I didn't know before reading here, made me sad. I felt kind of glad the replies and comments were angry about the perpetrators, i.e. the offenders of this girl and everyone who participated in this mobbing, bullying etc. - And also glad there are no offensive posts against the victim. It's sad, but there are many people on the net who treat victims disrespectful, even after their death.

Sorry, but although becoming what you despise through anger is not the desired outcome, there is also such a thing as justice. While justice and revenge are a bit difficult to separate at times, I wouldn't care, if this happened to my daughter.
Seriously, I often wonder how a parent can live with the reality that the abusers or attackers of their child are still grinning and happy after hurting their baby girl? (or boy)
Not trying for excess macho, just don't get it.
Obviously one needs to think it through, no sense accomplishing a goal and being self destructive. Like committing the perfect crime and inexplicably confessing to the authorities.
And thinking how this particular child had to suffer for so long makes just about anyone, especially a parent, angry deep inside.

There is no shame removing shit stains from the underwear of society, as it were. The next victim of these predators wouldn't become a reality. It balances out.

That is a sad and disgusting story. How and why people can behave like this (mobbing/bullying the victim) is beyond me. I mean, just imagine disappointing and psychologically torturing a young rape victim to the extent that she takes her own life. That's rotten to the core. I can't even imagine doing something so cruel. It's just beyond me. Not only the boys and girls who "contributed" to her suicide, but also their parents should be ashamed. How can you raise such a insensitive and cruel person?
