Footage shot by a passer-by shows six men attempting to break into the Michael Jones Jeweller in Gold Street, Northampton, at 9.30am on Monday.

As staff activate automated shutters to protect the store's windows, footage shows pensioner Ann Timson in a red coat running across the road towards them.

She is then seen hitting members of the gang with her handbag, forcing them to retreat and make a getaway on their scooters.

Sorry, but that's not so smart. It's five guys with sledgehammers and if they weren't feeling hesitant about fighting off an elderly woman then she would have gotten hurt. I'll admit she has valor though.

Good on her, the older generation grew up through tougher times and wars so aint scared of anything. I would never do anything alone as thugs today beat and kill people for nothing (groups vs one doesn't bother them) but if I saw a few people intervening I'd probably join in, strength in numbers. Burglars and robbers are the lowest of the low and heap misery on their victims but that isn't reflected in their sentencing just because people only get emotionally harmed rather than physically. Sad thing is these guys will probably already be out on bail as I write this.

I have always said Granny's kick ass. And so they do.

It was a tad foolish though doing it herself as most criminals these days have no morals. Back in the day they might not have had many but at least they had some compared to the crooks that roam the streets now.
