WASHINGTON - With the 2010 election year barely under way, two senators and one governor -- all Democrats -- ditched plans to run for re-election in the latest signs of trouble for President Barack Obama's party.

Taken together, the decisions by Senators Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota as well as Colorado Governor Bill Ritter caused another bout of heartburn for Democrats as they struggle to defend themselves in a sour political environment for incumbents, particularly the party in charge.

Wonder how many from both sides will be dropping out?

Interesting.

If it looks like you're not gonna' cruise to an easy re-election...just quit.

Nice.

At least they did not jump ship to the other party.

They're endeared just like their welfare recipient by choice constituents, have you ever seen so many unaccomplished people spouting off with such haughty attitudes ever before ? It's all back asswards, this entitlement attitude, everybody rides for free when you want to bust a nation.

Also - Follow the special interest $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Jason .... follow the money to big pharma and big insurance. The 5th column couldn't do as much damage !

Aw, well, at least the constituents won't last long after launching their revolution :1orglaugh they're dependent on govt... they have no plan B ! :glugglug:

They aren't excluded. they don't need it since they already have healthcare plans. Members of Congress are offered insurance through their employer, which in this case is the federal government. They can purchase it through the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan, which is offered to all federal employees. Under the plan, federal workers — and members of Congress — can choose from a variety of insurance plans just as people would in the new health care exchange.

I though they were going to give us the same plan they have. See more and more lies!

Chris Dodd is a clown who probably should be investigated for ethics violations over his sweetheart home mortgage from Countrywide. Connecticut is Blue to the core, blueblood to the core, actually, and will simply select a better Democrat than Dodd.

Byron Dorgan did not distinguish himself, contrary to this article, and that's why he won't run again.

The article linked to above is not an opinion piece, it is a straight piece of journalism written by an actual desk reporter for Fox. Yes they credit The AP for "contributing" to this article but contributing does not mean writing.

So, does this sound like a "fair and balanced" sentence written by a journalist?

It seems to me that this writer chose bias and opinion instead of actually reporting facts. Again, this is not an opinion piece. This is (allegedly) actual journalism from Fox....so, where are the followup medical reports denoting this heartburn?

If I may just point out that Obama specifically wanted the final bill to offer the same access to exchanges that everyone in Congress gets. It was the GOP who fought tooth and nail against exchanges and the public option with this nonsense about death panels and 'socialist health care'. So frankly it's kinda hilarious that you're angry at the sponsors of the bill for diluting freedom of choice in the final product by compromising with useless obstructionists, instead of being angry at the useless obstructionists themselves.

Hilarious.

How did the GOP fight tooth and nail aganist the public opition? Were they involved in the talks. If appearing on the MSM station and giving your parties POV on somthing is obstruction they we are going to be going to hell in a handbasket.

Jason, do you think Republicans would be in favor of a public health care plan?

Ric, I know they are not. But what i am asking is that if they were not part of the meeting then how are they being obstructive. Not like the Dems could just do whatever the heel they wanted anyways. If the Dems really wanted it, they the Dems should have stopped the infighting that they did and do what they wanted in the first place.

Town halls? Sarah Palin spouting crap about 'death panels' and 'the government is going to kill Down's syndrome babies' all summer long? Grassley yelling about Obama 'pulling the plug on Grandma'? Insurance company-sponsored fake 'grassroots' rallies? Shouting that illegals should not be able to even BUY their own life-saving health insurance? Angry Southerners carrying guns to presidential appearances? Any of that ring a bell?

Again, it makes absolutely no sense to accuse the sponsors of the bill of 'exempting themselves' from their own bill when they'd been fighting for exchanges just like their own to be included all along. They didn't 'exempt themselves'. They were cowed into doing so by loud, angry, ignorant people.

Do you call Filibustering and threatening to Filibuster--productive and constructive bipartisanship?

The majority of Americans voted in Obama and voted in Democrats to take control and Republicans have attempted to block every piece of legislation that the Dems have tried to write.

Why would the Republicans care to "compromise" on issues that they don't want to change and what, exactly, do the Republicans have to offer for compromising? The Dems, for whatever reason, even sold out on Abortion and that didn't even garner a single Republican vote....:dunno:

Dodd had no shot in Connecticut as it was. My state was onto him the minute we found out he and Barney Frank collapsed the housing market.. the most hilarious part of Dodd's final year in office was his usage of his own diagnosis of early stage prostrate cancer to further health care reform. Unreal..

Good riddance to bad politics.

Damn straight we're Blue to the core and we will be selecting Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. (Actually I was gonna choose Linda McMahon but Dodd dropped out so that's out the window and Blumenthal is awesome.)
