2016 NCAA College World Series

College baseball doesn't get the same press coverage that either football or basketball but I can tell you right now that it is every bit as thrilling to watch as any sport at any level. Wow....some real surprises in the Super-regionals knocked 7 of the top 10 teams in the NCAA out of contention so this year's battle in Omaha for supremacy in college baseball should be pretty wide open. I'm personally excited since #3 Miami is positioned to certainly make a deep run and could definitely win it all. It won't be easy since Florida, TCU, and Texas Tech would be the other major contenders from my view but as any college baseball fan knows, literally ANYTHING can happen once you get to Omaha so all it takes is for one of these teams to get smoking hot and any of them could walk off with the title. The Canes take on Arizona this Saturday at 2pm CDT so I'll be watching. Here's this year's bracket in case you are interested.

How about it? Any other college baseball fans around here?

OK State has been solid this post-season. Let's see how they do outside of South Carolina. Coastal is the first school from where I used to live to make it. East Carolina is always solid. My alma mater UNCW was one win away from going to a Super Regional. Florida has a solid rotation.

Always great baseball in Omaha.

Wow....great pitching job by both teams but dominant 5-hit complete-game shutout by Thomas Hatch for OSU to take out UCSB in the opening-round game by a 1-0 score. Tough loss for the Gauchos so now they move to the loser's bracket to try to stay in contention. OSU will play the winner of the Miami/Arizona game later this evening and tonight's loser will go up against UCSB in an elimination game. Should be a great game. It is normally so important to win your first game in this series but I have been so impressed with the way UCSB took out powerhouse Louisville in the super-regionals to the degree that I would definitely not write them off by any means.

Side note: ESPN can get rid of that little "strike zone" rectangle superimposed over home plate. The calls are made by the umpire so we don't really need this cute little feature unless there is a controversial call. Just eliminate it, use it when and if the situation demands it but otherwise just let the fans watch the game, please. Annoying.

I think ESPN is more and more about creating stories rather than reporting on them. The strike zone looks like a service to the viewer but is a source for a potential controversy. I am finding myself muting the games, something I never used to do. Plus, the network is catering to the 20-something crowd for advertising reasons, but, as a result, are sacrificing the network's integrity. I don't give a fuck what Stephen A. Smith has to say about anything. In fact, if he told me it was raining outside, I would have to check for myself to be sure.

Didn't get to see any action yesterday, traveling, but am looking forward to checking out a few games.

Couldn't agree more. I found myself being outraged by pitch calls that would normally be accepted as borderline and second-guessing the ump on almost every throw. It sucks....get rid of it.

Arizona's pitching was too much for Miami last night so it's off to the loser's bracket we go! Not the best scenario but we actually won the title one year from this exact position so it can be done....just no room for error.

Amazing. Florida and Texas Tech both knocked into the losers bracket. That means NO ONE from the top ten going into the post-season made it to the winners bracket. Some real surprises....Coastal Carolina beats Florida? Ahhhh, but all is not lost! My Hurricanes are on at 1 pm, CDT today so I need to finish work by noon....not missing this as they take on UCSB.

Well that was certainly fun! Miami is the first team to be eliminated. Somebody else pick this up from here. Judging by the remarks so far, I don't think anyone will notice. shhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Goddammit. I have to change my signature again! Well, don't hold your breath.....

OK State has scored TWO RUNS in Omaha. Yet they are 1 win away from playing Monday in the Champ Series. Amazing. I think it is awesome the SEC/ACC sent 17 teams to the post-season, meaning over 25% of the field and if Miami loses today, NO ONE is left! Love it. Meanwhile as much crap as the West Coast took, there are 2 WC schools in Omaha and both are still around

I sooooooo wanna see a Coastal Carolina vs UCSB/Arizona final to shove it up the asses of the fucking elitist assholes of the N*SEC*AA

It's easy to be rooting for Coastal Carolina now. You've got to be kidding me!!! What a Cinderella story....not exactly a NCAA baseball powerhouse reputation! Fascinating....but way from over....

My UNCW has been playing them for years, they are right down the street. ECU, UNCW, Coastal have all had solid programs for years. None had broken through the glass ceiling until this year. Wish it was UNCW but glad to see an eastern NC/SC team break through.

Wow. Arizona (a big enough surprise on their own) against Coastal Carolina....the Chanticleers....member of the mighty Big South conference???? Unreal.....I'm loving this. No one could have predicted this. Here's hoping the Cinderella Coastal Carolina story continues on to the title....I mean, unless you are an Arizona fan (and I'm sure there are plenty), how could you not root for the Chanticleers??? (which is a another name for a rooster by the way). Crazy....

In a similar story to Leicester City, Coastal makes their claim on history.

Tonight was an absolute nail-biter. Chants hold on for a 5-4 win. Tomorrow night is the deciding game. Coastal is sending their ace to the mound. This could happen, Coastal Carolina could be national champs.

I went to the '97 final game of the CWS. It was my first date with my ex-fiance. I haven't been able to watch the CWS since we broke up in 1999.

Can't find the link, but there is a cool short video showing the Clemson football team going crazy as the final out is recorded. Lots of people jumped on the CC bandwagon.
